At the end of every year, we are bound to see at least one biographical drama hitting theater screens, in the hope of enlightening audiences and capturing awards. This year, we’ll have Diana, which follows the last two years of the life of Diana, Princess of Wales.
This is a teaser trailer, so there’s not much information revealed, although there appears to be some footage from the film contained within. Oliver Hirschbiegel, who directed the 2004 acclaimed biographical film Downfall (or Der Untergang) about Hitler, has taken on another biography, although this one of a much different person. If Hirschbiegel has the guts to direct a movie about Adolf Hitler, he clearly has ambition as a filmmaker.
Naomi Watts portrays Princess Diana, and already speculation has begun of her Best Actress Oscar nomination odds. According to goldderby.com, early projections stand at 13/8 (38%), just behind Meryl Streep for August: Osage County.
All in all, the teaser trailer for Diana doesn’t really interest me greatly, but this may or may not change as more and more material on the film is released.
